Why Bangalore Borewells Are Going Dry

A borewell recharge pit reverses this for your plot. Instead of letting your rooftop rainwater flow into the street, it filters that water and channels it directly into your borewell casing — recharging exactly the aquifer your pump draws from.

How a Borewell Recharge Pit Works

• Collection: Rooftop rainwater is routed via existing downpipes to the pit location near your borewell.
• Filtration: The pit is layered with graded filter media — boulders, 40mm metal, coarse aggregate and filter sand — so only clean water reaches the casing.
• Recharge: The borewell casing is slotted below filter level, letting filtered water enter and travel down to the aquifer.
• Overflow: Excess water percolates into surrounding soil, raising the local water table.

For plots with high rainwater volume or poor soil percolation, we build a two-stage system: a silt trap and percolation chamber first, then the recharge pit — the same design we installed at AJS Palace, Hulimangala (see below).

The staged design protects the casing from silt while maximising recharge volume during heavy monsoon spells — the right approach for larger roofs in fast-developing areas where construction dust is heavy.

Will this work if my borewell is completely dry?

Usually yes. A dry borewell means the local aquifer is depleted, not destroyed. Recharge pits refill that aquifer — most dry borewells show measurable recovery within 1–2 monsoon seasons. During inspection we assess casing condition to confirm suitability.

How much water can a recharge pit send into my borewell?

A 1,200 sq ft roof in Bangalore receives roughly 1 lakh litres of rain per year. With a well-built recharge system, 80–90% of that can reach your aquifer instead of the storm drain.

Does the pit need maintenance?
